Volkswagen has unveiled images of their new all-electric SUV, the ID.UNYX, which is set to be introduced to the Chinese market later this month.
Our first glimpse of the ID.UNYX came in March, courtesy of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This SUV is modeled on the Cupra Tavascan and marks the debut model in VW’s fresh ID.UX series. By 2027, this series is expected to expand to include four more electric vehicles. Production of the ID.UNYX will take place at Volkswagen Anhui, a joint venture between VW and JAC.
According to local reports, the ID.UNYX measures 4,663 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and stands 1,610 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm. Its design closely mirrors that of the Tavascan, but VW has incorporated distinct elements to align it with the ID family aesthetic. The front of the vehicle features sharp headlights connected by an LED light bar, enhancing its modern look.
The showcased model, presented in an elegant shade of grey, sports gloss black accents on the front fascia and a gold-and-black VW badge. Similar to the Tavascan, the ID.UNYX has gloss black A-pillars, black rocker panels, and a black rear diffuser. At the rear, it boasts a pair of LED taillights with a complex lighting design and another light bar.
All variants of the ID.UNYX will be equipped with an 82.4 kWh battery pack supplied by CATL. The entry-level version will come with a single electric motor at the rear, delivering 228 hp. The top-tier models will feature a dual-motor setup, with the rear motor producing 228 hp and the front motor generating 107 hp, for a total of 335 hp. According to the optimistic Chinese testing cycle, the base model will offer a range of 621 km on a single charge, while the dual-motor version will have a range of 565 km.
Pricing details for the ID.UNYX have not yet been released. It is unlikely that the ID.UNYX or any future models from the ID.UX series will be available outside of China. VW has designated this series as a “sub-brand for China,” focusing solely on the Chinese market.
The ID.UNYX represents VW’s latest venture into the electric vehicle market in China. With its sleek design, advanced technology, and impressive range, it aims to capture the interest of Chinese consumers. As VW continues to innovate and expand its electric vehicle offerings, the ID.UNYX serves as a significant step in their journey towards a more sustainable automotive future.
