Volkswagen has introduced the seventh generation of its popular Transporter and Caravelle models. Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Transit Custom, the new Transporter offers a blend of practicality and versatility.
While sharing its platform with the Ford model, the Transporter T7 boasts distinct Volkswagen styling cues. The exterior features a redesigned front end reminiscent of both the Multivan and ID. Buzz models, while the interior incorporates a familiar layout with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Available in a variety of body styles including panel vans, passenger carriers, and high-roof options, the Transporter measures between 5,050mm and 5,450mm in length with a wheelbase ranging from 3,100mm to 3,500mm. These dimensions translate to a cargo capacity of between 5.8 and 9.0 cubic meters.
The Transporter T7 offers a diverse range of powertrain options to cater to different customer needs. Three turbodiesel engines, a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid, and a trio of electric powertrains are available. Diesel variants produce between 108 and 204 horsepower and feature front-wheel drive, with optional all-wheel drive for higher-powered models. Electric options deliver up to 282 horsepower and are rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive expected to be offered in the future.
Designed for both work and leisure, the Transporter T7 boasts impressive payload and towing capabilities. With a maximum payload of 1.33 tonnes and a towing capacity of up to 2.8 tonnes, it can handle demanding tasks with ease.
Volkswagen offers the Transporter in various trim levels, including the flagship Caravelle Style and the adventure-oriented PanAmericana. The latter features off-road inspired styling, 19-inch alloy wheels, and unique interior accents.
The Transporter T7 is now available to order in Germany, with prices starting at €36,780 excluding VAT for the base diesel panel van. While pricing for the passenger-focused Caravelle has yet to be announced, production of both models will take place in Turkey alongside the Ford Transit Custom.
The new Volkswagen Transporter T7 combines modern design, advanced technology, and practical functionality to deliver a compelling package for both commercial and private customers.
