VW ID.UNYX EV Arrives in China

Author: |

Volkswagen just announced their brand new electric SUV, the ID.UNYX, and it's set to hit the streets of China in mid-July. This isn't just any electric car, though – it's the first pure electric vehicle ever made by Volkswagen Anhui, a whole new branch of the famous car company.

The ID.UNYX actually made its first appearance at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. It's a compact SUV, meaning it's not too big but not too small, just the right size for city driving. Imagine a car that's roughly 4.7 meters long, 1.9 meters wide, and 1.6 meters tall, with a wheelbase of 2.8 meters.

But there's more! Volkswagen also announced a whole new series of electric cars at the same time. They're calling it the ID.UX series, and guess what? The ID.UNYX is the very first car in this shiny new lineup. The name "ID.UX" kind of sounds like "Make Every Moment Gold," which is pretty cool. To celebrate this new series, all the cars in it will have a special gold Volkswagen logo! And get this – by 2027, Volkswagen plans to launch a total of five new electric cars under the ID.UX banner.

Now, let's talk about how the ID.UNYX looks. Picture this: a sleek, sporty design with a sloping roofline, just like a coupe, but with the extra space of an SUV. The door handles are kind of hidden away, giving it a clean, futuristic look. Around back, the design is layered, with the taillights, brake light, and even the Volkswagen logo which lights up. all stacked together neatly. Plus, it rides on some awesome 21-inch wheels.

The ID.UNYX is ready to roll, and it's got the paperwork to prove it. It got the green light from the Chinese government back in March. Here's the exciting part: you can choose between two different powertrain options, either a single electric motor or a double dose of electric power with two motors! The single motor version packs a punch with 170 kW of power, while the double motor ups the game with 80 kW in the front and another 170 kW in the back, giving you all-wheel drive action.

To keep all that electric power flowing, the ID.UNYX uses a special battery pack made by a company called CATL. It's an 82.4 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery, a mouthful to say but basically a powerful and long-lasting battery. Depending on which version you choose, you can expect a driving range of either 621 kilometers or 565 kilometers on a single charge. That's a pretty impressive distance, so you can explore further without worrying about running out of juice.
