SGMW has officially begun the pre-sale of its new Wuling Hongguang EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) variant, offering three different trims and seating configurations that include both 5-seater and 7-seater layouts. The starting price for this EREV model ranges from approximately $9,500 to $10,200, making it a competitively priced option for families or individuals looking for a flexible, budget-friendly vehicle with extended range capabilities. For comparison, the fully electric version of the Wuling Hongguang is priced between $9,600 and $10,000, and provides a cruising range of up to 300 kilometers. Meanwhile, the gasoline-powered version remains the most affordable of the trio, available from $6,400 to $8,400.
From a design perspective, the EREV version largely retains the aesthetic of the EV variant, with the primary visual difference being a borderless front grille that features a decorative matrix-style pattern. The charging port has been thoughtfully placed on the right front fender for easier access. Aerodynamically, the EREV performs better than the gasoline-powered model, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.32Cd, which is approximately 15% lower and contributes to improved efficiency.
Dimension-wise, the EREV version shares the same measurements with its EV counterpart, offering a body size of 4515 mm in length, 1725 mm in width, and 1790 mm in height, along with a 2850 mm wheelbase. In terms of safety, the vehicle includes essential features such as anti-lock braking systems (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and dual front airbags. Moreover, over 56% of the vehicle's frame is constructed from high-strength steel, ensuring a solid structural base.
Inside the cabin, the Wuling Hongguang EREV sports a minimalist interior design, complete with a D-shaped steering wheel, a straightforward instrument panel, rectangular air-conditioning vents, and rotary knobs on the center console for controlling key functions. Higher-end trims offer an 8-inch floating central touchscreen, adding a tech-savvy touch to the otherwise practical layout. Customers can choose between a 2+3 five-seater or a 2+2+3 seven-seater arrangement, making the vehicle adaptable for different needs. The five-seater variant includes practical elements like manually adjustable side mirrors, fabric seating, electric front windows, a USB port, and two speakers. Both second and third rows are foldable, allowing for increased cargo capacity when needed.
Under the hood, the vehicle features a rear-wheel drive system, powered by a 1.5-liter range extender engine that produces 98 horsepower and 125 Nm of torque. This is paired with an electric motor outputting 101 hp and 180 Nm, and an 8.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. This setup allows the vehicle to achieve a pure electric range of 50 km (CLTC) and a total driving range of 1,000 km (NEDC). The EREV also supports DC fast charging, which can charge the battery to 80% in just 30 minutes, making it a convenient and efficient option for urban and suburban driving alike.
