Xiaomi Recalls 30,931 SU7 EVs Over Autonomous Parking Issue

Author: |

Xiaomi has initiated a recall affecting 30,931 units of its SU7 electric sedan due to a malfunction in the autonomous parking system. This recall encompasses vehicles produced between February 6th and November 26th, 2024, specifically those with internal numbers BJ7000MBEVR2, XMA7000MBEVR2, and XMA7000MBEVR5.

The recall was prompted by an incident reported by an owner of the SU7 Standard version on November 14th. The vehicle encountered difficulties during the autonomous parking process, resulting in scratches and collisions due to a failure in the vehicle's detection system.

Xiaomi attributed the issue to occasional synchronization problems within the cloud service responsible for the autonomous parking function. The company addressed this by implementing enhanced preventive measures within the cloud service and incorporating additional redundant safety strategies into the smart parking assistance system.

After rigorous testing and verification over two months, Xiaomi confirmed the effectiveness and reliability of their solution. Consequently, the recall will be executed through an Over-the-Air (OTA) software update. This means vehicle owners will conveniently receive the necessary software updates wirelessly without the need to visit a Xiaomi-authorized service center.

The Xiaomi SU7, available in Standard, Pro, and Max variants, offers a range of impressive performance figures. The Standard and Pro models, both rear-wheel drive, utilize a single electric motor generating 295 horsepower. The Standard version employs a 73.6 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 700 kilometers. The Pro variant boasts a larger 94.3 kWh battery, extending the range to up to 830 kilometers.

The top-of-the-line SU7 Max features a more powerful dual-motor setup, combining a 369 horsepower rear motor with a 220 kW front motor for a combined output of 664 horsepower. This high-performance variant utilizes a 101 kWh battery pack, enabling a range of up to 800 kilometers.

The Xiaomi SU7, priced between 215,900 and 299,900 yuan (approximately $21,600 to $41,150 USD), is available in a diverse palette of ten colors, including the recently introduced "Magenta" shade.

This recall highlights the increasing importance of robust software development and rigorous quality control within the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market. While Xiaomi has taken proactive steps to address the issue, it serves as a reminder of the potential challenges associated with advanced driver-assistance systems and the need for continuous improvement in vehicle safety.
