Xpeng Motors is set to unveil its significantly revamped G6 SUV, promising a comprehensive upgrade that extends beyond a mere facelift. With a scheduled debut on February 28th, the 2025 Xpeng G6 is poised to introduce a suite of 81 enhancements, encompassing notable changes to its exterior aesthetics, interior design, and technological features.
A prominent exterior modification is the introduction of a new full-width LED light strip, dubbed the “Galaxy Light Wing,” which replaces the previous two-segment design. This continuous light bar stretches across the front fascia, creating a more cohesive and modern appearance. The Xpeng logo has been repositioned to the hood, further refining the vehicle's front profile. The side profile has been updated with new black-finished petal-style alloy wheels, adding a touch of sportiness. At the rear, a subtle ducktail spoiler has been incorporated, enhancing the vehicle's aerodynamic profile. These adjustments have resulted in a slight increase in the vehicle’s overall length, now measuring 4,758 mm. However, the width, height, and wheelbase remain unchanged at 1,920 mm, 1,650 mm, and 2,890 mm, respectively.
Intriguingly, the regulatory filings for the updated G6 do not mention LiDAR, a feature currently available in the higher-end Max variant of the G6 and G9 models. This omission suggests a potential strategic shift by Xpeng, potentially moving away from LiDAR in some models, aligning with a trend observed in the P7+ model. Nevertheless, spy shots of the facelifted G6 reveal blue lights that activate when the intelligent driving function is engaged, indicating the presence of advanced driver-assistance features, likely relying on alternative sensor technologies.
The interior of the updated G6 has undergone a significant transformation, featuring a larger infotainment screen compared to the current model. Both the instrument cluster and the central display adopt a floating design, creating a more contemporary and tech-forward ambiance. The interior layout bears a resemblance to Xpeng’s P7+ liftback, incorporating a central charging pad and additional storage space for enhanced practicality. The doors now utilize electronic buttons for operation, adding a touch of modern convenience.
In terms of powertrain, the updated G6 retains its single-motor configuration, powered by a TZ230XY01F30B electric motor produced at Xpeng’s Wuhan facility. This motor delivers a maximum power output of 218 kW, matching the performance of the current model. As of now, no details have been provided regarding a dual-motor variant, leaving the possibility open for future additions to the lineup.
He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of Xpeng, has emphasized the comprehensive nature of the facelift, describing it as a “significant overhaul.” The company has reportedly replaced 34% of the tier 1 assembly parts and implemented 81 feature upgrades, indicating a substantial investment in enhancing the G6. The G6 has been a pivotal model for Xpeng since its launch in June 2023, offering a starting price of $27,560. Its inclusion in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology catalogue in December 2024 paved the way for its official launch, signaling regulatory approval and market readiness. This comprehensive update aims to reinforce the G6's position in the competitive electric SUV market, offering consumers a refined and technologically advanced driving experience.
