While the United Arab Emirates market prefers big cars and SUVs but it doesn't mean that you cannot find good superminis and hatchbacks in that country and one of the newest superminis of the GCC market is the 2021 Suzuki Swift.
2021 Suzuki Swift is now available in the UAE market with a base price of AED 49,900. The new swift is a direct rival to Kia Rio, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Yaris. Suzuki Swift is a good alternative for small city cars because of its good fuel economy, new look and low base price. The new Swift is attractive enough to get the attention of customers in the market.
We can say that the Suzuki Swift has the best looking even the most sporty looking design in its segment but Suzuki tried to improve its mass production supermini over the previous models the main design elements are a big green hosting number plate and Suzuki logo new headlights and hidden rear door handle.
The roofline is also flat and it gives the shift a boxy shape which is completed but black a pillar and black Sea pillars.
At the rear, the design is more regular but on some trains, Suzuki tried to make sporty look by adding two tailpipes
The new Suzuki Swift introduced in 2018 and it is available with different engines in different markets. The engine range includes 1.0-liter three-cylinder K10C Boosterjet mild-hybrid, 1.2-liter with mild-hybrid technology only for the European market, 1.3-liter K12C Boosterjet and 1.4-liter K14C Boosterjet again available as an MHEV in Europe.
In the UAE, the swift is available with its probably most conventional engine which is a 1.4-liter four-cylinder unit with 82 hp and 113 nm of torque. The engine is connected to a CVT automatic transmission that transfers the power to the front axle. Buyers also can choose a 5-speed manual transmission for their Swift.
While the engine may not sound very powerful on paper but it is a very efficient choice with an average fuel economy of 5.4 l/100 km. Also due to the Swift’s 890 kg weight, the car can accelerate from 0-100 in 12.6 seconds and finally touch the top speed of 160 kph.
While Suzuki Swift isn’t as powerful as some rivals like Ford Fiesta but its low mass helps it to feel fast and agile. None of the cars in this segment has reputation for being sporty but the Swift acts well in changing directions. The body roll is acceptable in the class. A minimum turning radius of 4.8m makes Swift a very ideal car for daily use and narrow streets. When facing the bumps and potholes, Suzuki Swift is a little harsh but not that much. In some markets, buyers can opt for the all-wheel drive system which is not a common option in this segment but this option is not available in the UAE.
In terms of size, Suzuki Swift measures 3,840 mm long 1735 mm wide 1495 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm.
Stepping inside the cabin and you’ll find yourself in a simple but practical space. The dash design is not the best in class and it is more reminding of the Dacia Sandero with those circle air vents on the top but the flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel and instrument cluster design are really good.
There is also a 3.5-inch LCD multi-function display in the instrument cluster that shows various information like average fuel economy or the remaining driving range for the driver. Seats are also very comfortable and support the body very well.
About interior space, Suzuki Swift is not a class-leading car but still can handle four adults with reasonable comfort space.
At the rear is not that bad so adults with 6 ft tall still can sit at the back seats without any complaint. The headroom is also good compared and the only issue that rear passengers may complain about or narrow rear windows. As the shift is five-door supermini access to the cabinet space is very easy for all passengers and this is one of the most important advantages of Suzuki Swift over some rivals like Fiat 500.Quality if the material is not bad but not the best in class. Standard features are a manual air conditioning system, foldable rear seats with 40/60 configuration, two USB ports, two cup holders for front passengers, cruise control, and a Bluetooth-compatible audio system.
Standard safety features for Suzuki Swift are front airbags, side head airbags, side chest airbags for front passengers, seatbelt pre-tensioner, seatbelt load limiter, seatbelt reminder, ABS brakes and EBD system. Current generation Suzuki swift could manage to get three stars from Euro NCAP in 2017 which is good for a low price supermini.
Suzuki Swift is not the best car in class compared to Ford Fiesta or VW Polo but it is one of the best superminis currently available in the market. Its main pros are above average handling, good fuel economy, good design inside and outside, standard features, and good build quality.
Its main disadvantages are bad cabin insulation, hard plastic everywhere in the cabin, low engine output and higher base price compared to some rivals.
2021 Suzuki Swift is now available in the UAE market with a base price of AED 49,900.
