Xpeng G3 is one of the latest electric SUV’s from the Chinese automaker Haima Automobile. Hiama started producing Xpeng G3 in 2018 for another Chinese Xiaopeng Motors. The Xpeng G3 first showed up at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and then the production started in the same year and this year it launched in Europe.
Xpeng G3 is a compact crossover that measures 4,450 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,610 mm tall. Its wheelbase is also 2,625 mm. These numbers put the Xpeng G3 in the same segment as Hyundai Tucson or Kia Sportage.
Designwise, the lack of a front grille reminds us that this is an electric car as there is no need to air intake for the radiator like internal combustion cars. The front facia is modern and dynamic with LED headlights and an aerodynamic front bumper. Customers also can opt for the two-tone color with a black roof that adds some sportiness to the Xpeng G3. While the side view is also acceptable and good the only complaint here are the plastic wheel arches and smaller wheels compared to some other rivals.
At the rear, there is a lightbar hosting the companies logo at the middle. On top of that, you can recognize a roof-mounted spoiler. The rear bumper has some black diffuser-like elements that we are not sure if they are aerodynamically functional or no but even if they are not functional, they helped the designers to give some extra sportiness to the rear end. Like other EV cars, there is no sign of an exhaust pipe.
The Xpeng G3 uses an electric motor with 190 hp and 300 nm, connected to a 57.5 kWh battery pack. The electric motor is a second-generation permanent magnet synchronous unit that enables Xpeng G3 to hit 100 km/h in less than 8.6 seconds and reach the top speed of 170 km/h.
The lithium-ion battery pack covers IP68 waterproof and dustproof standard and can provide 460 km of driving range. This number seems to be very optimistic and we expect it to drop significantly in real-world driving. Charging the battery from 0% to 100% with an AC charger takes 4.3hours and with a DC charger, it is possible to charge the battery from 30% to 80% in less than 38 minutes.
Xpeng G3 also benefits from a Braking energy recovery system with three different recovery modes.
The overall design of the cabin is higher than what we expected from a Chinese car. The main element here is the vertical touch screen on the dashboard that controls almost everything.
It is obvious that designers had looked at Tesla to shape the G3s cabin. There is also a fully digital instrument cluster and leather multi-function steering wheel.
Xpeng G3 is not an expensive car and its base price in the U.K is going to start from £30,000. But even with this price tag Xpeng G3 offers plenty of driver-assist equipment.
As the automaker mentioned, Xpeng G3 has Level 2.5 autonomous driving and for reaching this capability it operates 12 ultrasonic radar sensors, 8 high definition cameras, and three millimeter-wave radar sensors.
Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering Control (LCC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA), Assisted lane Change (ALC), Adaptive Turning Cruise (ATC), and Driving Assistance Simulation Display are some of the technologies that you can find in the G3.
Other highlights are a 360-degree surround-view camera, a rearview camera, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Cut in Warning (CIW), Forward Distance Monitoring (FDM), Bling Spot Detection system (BSD), Lane Departure Warning System (LDW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Change Assist (LCA), and Door Open Warning.
As a modern vehicle, Xpeng G3 comes standard with plenty of safety features. The long list of safety equipment consists of driver and passenger airbag, front and rear seat airbag, front side airbag, Electric Stability Control system, AutoHold, Hill Descent Control, front and rear parking sensors, side parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring system, Collison preloading system, ISOFIX child safety seat, and on-board tool kit.
With this list, the G3 offers one of the best standard safety feature lists at its price compared to other cars available in Europe.
I think it is the best EV , but when can expect this car in EU
