2021-2023 Ford F-150 Models Recalled

Author: |

Ford has issued a recall for 2,070 units of its 2021-2023 F-150 models due to potential issues with the lighting systems and the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system. This follows a previous recall in May 2024, which addressed courtesy lamp defects that did not meet the specifications of the Australian Design Rule (ADR). The new recall identifies additional problems with the affected F-150s, including faults in the courtesy lamps, fog lamps, daytime running lamps, and side direction indicator lamps, as well as the AEB system.

The recall notice, which has been filed with the Department of Infrastructure, reveals that the affected vehicles are marked as 2021 to 2023 models but may have been sold at later dates. The document states: "The courtesy lamps, fog lamps, and daytime running lamps installed in these vehicles do not comply with the requirements specified under ADR 13 – Installation of Lighting and Light-signalling Devices on other than L-Group Vehicles." Additionally, it highlights a critical issue with the AEB system: "The Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB) may fail to re-activate after an ignition cycle as required by ADR 98 – Advanced Emergency Braking for Passenger Vehicles and Light Goods Vehicles."

The non-compliance with these regulations poses significant safety risks. Specifically, the inoperability of the AEB system could increase the likelihood of accidents, potentially causing severe injuries to both the vehicle occupants and other road users. The notice emphasizes that the vehicles do not meet the standards set by ADR 98 for Advanced Emergency Braking systems in light vehicles and goods vehicles, underscoring the severity of the issue.
