The 2021 Kia Niro's Australian pricing and specs have been announced, with three powertrains and two spec levels available.
The Kia Niro SUV will be available with a choice of three electrified powertrains: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric.
The Hybrid versions are powered by a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 103hp and 147Nm of torque, mated to a 42hp and 170Nm electric motor, and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for total outputs of 139hp and 265Nm of torque.
The Hybrid S is estimated to have a combined fuel economy of 3.8L/100km, while the Hybrid Sport is claimed to have a combined fuel economy of 4.4L/100km. Regenerative braking is available on both versions.
The Plug-in Hybrid receives a 60hp electric motor and a bigger 8.9kWh battery pack, providing similar 139hp and 265Nm combined outputs for the same six-speed dual-clutch auto, but a combined fuel economy claim of 1.3L/100km and 58km of all-electric range on the NEDC test cycle. There are three driving modes available for PHEVs: automatic, full EV, and hybrid.
A 3.3kW AC adapter will charge the Plug-in Hybrid from 0% to 100% in two hours and 15 minutes.
The 201hp and 395Nm electric motor on the front axle powers the Electric (EV) models, which are coupled with a 64kWh battery for a claimed range of 455km on Europe's WLTP test cycle.
An 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wired and wireless Android Auto, digital radio, LED tail-lights, cloth/leather combination trim, roof bars, automatic wipers, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support are standard for all powertrains.
All Niro S models have seven airbags as standard, as well as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle identification, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure tracking, driver concentration monitoring, and rear occupant warning.
Buyers of Niro Electric will choose from Clear White, Aurora Black Pearl, Runway Red, Snow White Pearl, Silky Silver, and Yacht Blue colors. But for Clear White, all colors demand a $520 premium.
