The current GMC Sierra 1500 debuted in 2019, and for the 2022 model year, it has been updated with a new style, considerable interior enhancements, and the option of Super Cruise driver-assist technology. This improvement may help the Sierra 1500 gain ground on its biggest competition, the Ram 1500. In addition, two new trims have been added to the lineup: the opulent Denali Ultimate and the off-road AT4X.
In comparison to the previous Sierra 1500, the redesigned interior has larger touchscreens and improved materials. While the exterior appearance is identical, there are a few changes that keep the vehicle modern.
The 2022 GMC Sierra's front end has a larger grille than previously, which is the most noticeable change to the appearance. Every trim level gets new grille textures, with the Denali and Denali Ultimate's set to expand to the rest of the automaker's premium vehicles in the future. The LED fog lamps are hidden by a redesigned front bumper, and the LED headlights themselves have a dual-projector design.
There are three new exterior colors and new wheel styles across the board. Titanium Rush Metallic, Dynamic Blue Metallic, and Desert Sand Metallic are the three new hues. The truck's bed hasn't been altered, and the six-position MultiPro tailgate is still available.
Inside the cab, GMC unveiled photographs of both the Denali Ultimate and AT4X trims, which are nearly identical to the high-spec Yukon Denali and AT4 trims. That implies a more contemporary and streamlined dashboard appearance, as well as improved temperature controls, than the previous Sierra 1500.
The Denali Ultimate, which is new for 2022, comes with Adaptive Ride Control, a suede headliner, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system with etched stainless steel speaker grilles as standard equipment. The Denali Ultimate stands out artistically because of its matte-finish Paldao wood trim and stunning Alpine Umber upholstery. The price of the Ultimate will begin at $80,395.
Standard massaging seats with 16-way functionality, as well as Vanta ash wood trim and leather upholstery, remain on the AT4X. Similarly, the Bose audio system is standard. To begin, the elegant and competent AT4X will cost $74,995.
The Sierra SLE and SLT will have interior style comparable to the Yukon, exactly like the Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT4, and AT4X do with its SUV brothers. Every trim level SLE and higher will come standard with a 13.4-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which is a significant improvement over the previous Sierra's flagship 8.0-inch touchscreen and analog gauges with the 8.0-inch center display.
Multi matic DSSV spool-valve dampers are also included with the new Sierra 1500 AT4X. These dampers provide you with significantly more control in a wide range of off-road conditions without losing on-road comfort.
In comparison to the ordinary AT4, the AT4X has special springs that enhance wheel travel by 50 millimeters in the front and 25 millimeters in the rear. Electronic locking differentials are also standard on both the front and back axles.
Over significant obstacles, a larger transfer case underbody cover prevents inadvertent damage. With the transfer case set to 4-Low, the drive mode features a Terrain mode that allows one-pedal trail driving.
General Motors' new Super Cruise driver-assist system will be standard on the Sierra Denali Ultimate and available on the Denali. Super Cruise allows the driver to keep their hands off the steering wheel while the vehicle handles lane centering and tracking, adaptive cruise control, and even autonomous lane changes and overtaking. Super Cruise is also capable of towing a trailer. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available as standard.
The 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines are virtually unaltered under the hood. The headline-grabbing turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four now produces 569 Nm, up 20% over the existing 2.7's 472 Nm. The output is unknown, but the outgoing four-banger produces 310 horsepower. All of this adds up to a maximum trailer weight rating of 9,600 pounds for the two-wheel-drive model, up 200 pounds from 2021.
The Sierra Duramax 4x4's maximum towing capacity of 13,000 pounds is a best-in-class figure among light-duty four-wheel-drive diesel pickups, according to the carmaker.
The new GMC Sierra 1500 for 2022 is expected to be a significant upgrade over its Limited-style predecessor.
The basic Pro variant of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will cost $32,495 while the SLE will cost $43,895. The Elevation trim starts at $45,495 while the SLT trim starts at $50,895. The AT4 starts at $60,995, while the Denali costs $61,295. The AT4X costs $74,995, while the Denali Ultimate costs $80,395.
