Volkswagen has introduced the next version of the long-roof Volkswagen Golf R. In certain regions, including the United States and Canada, the new model is marketed as the Golf R Estate and Golf R Variant.
The VW Golf R Wagon is powered by the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 315 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox sends power to all four wheels.
VW claims the Golf R Wagon can achieve a peak speed of 270 km/h in 4.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds slower than the hatchback.
VW Golf R Wagon weighs 79 kg heavier than the hatch and offers tons of utility, thanks to larger luggage space and roof rails for even more storage. With the back seats in place, owners can store 611 liters of luggage and 1,642 liters after folding the bench.
It can also tow 1,900 kg, thanks to changes made to the suspension system to compensate for the extra weight and uneven weight distribution over the hatch.
Volkswagen also includes a hands-free tailgate, a 12 V connection, a 230-volt socket, and a retractable towing bracket.
Pricing information has not been released, but we do know that it will be available in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland in mid-August and will cost somewhat more than the hatchback.
