The debut of the Sierra 2500HD AT4X trim at GMC raised the bar for heavy-duty off-roading. And the company doesn't stop there; it also provides a unique AEV Edition package that is more opulent and daring than ever.
The AT4X trim level is being added to the complete line of GMC trucks. Here's a quick summary of how that relates to the heavy-duty trucks sold under this name.
This AT4X model from GMC doesn't come with a badge and wheel kit, like other AT4X versions do. A suspension lift has raised it by an inch and a half. It is equipped with plug-in Multimatic DSSV dampers and has 35-inch all-terrain tires.
A bigger steel skid plate shields the transfer case to keep things safe when going off the beaten road. The front has a skid plate made of metal.
New upper and lower control arms are installed and connected to updated steering knuckles at the front, while a new e-locking differential is added for the rear axle at the back.
Customers still receive the 18,500-pound towing capacity and the choice of either a gas or turbodiesel 6.6-liter engine because the AT4X is based on the normal GMC Sierra HD. Each uses a four-wheel drive system and a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission.
There is an AEV Edition, which is essentially an aesthetic package, for those who want a little extra aggression in their off-roading Sierra HD. The AEV Edition includes even more off-road accessories than the normal Sierra HD AT4X, such as stamped steel bumpers with built-in recovery points and front winch capability. Additionally, it receives distinctive 18-inch Salta wheels and heavy-duty steel skid plates. The mystery car covered on the trailer behind the Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition GMC displayed to us has wheels that are similar to those on the Sierra. It may be a Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, as we suspect.
Whether you choose AT4X or AEV Edition, all vehicles receive a special Obsidian Rush inside outfitted with leather, massaging seats, and luxury elements to lighten your hardcore trip at least a little bit.
However, pricing is still unavailable. That will be released closer to the game's release date, which is set for the fall of 2023.
