Audi has responded to China's ever-growing demand for vehicles with increased passenger comfort by unveiling four long-wheelbase models at the Shanghai Auto Show. These extended versions cater specifically to Chinese consumers, who place a high value on rear-seat space and in-cabin luxury. The lineup includes the A5L, A5L Sportback, A6L e-tron, and Q5L — all tailored for enhanced legroom, comfort, and technological sophistication.

Audi A5L

The Audi A5L, developed by FAW Audi, is the brand’s long-wheelbase variant of the A5 sedan. This model stretches 77 mm longer than its standard counterpart, providing significantly more interior room, particularly in the rear seat area. The rear seating experience is enhanced with thicker cushions and an increased recline angle of 28 degrees, ensuring a more comfortable ride for passengers. Technologically, the cabin is equipped with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a large 14.5-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated 10.9-inch display for the front passenger. While Audi has yet to fully detail the A5L’s powertrain, they did confirm it will feature advanced combustion engines integrated with 48-volt mild-hybrid systems for better efficiency and performance. It also rides on the Premium Platform Combustion, reinforcing its balance between luxury and capability.

Next up is the A5L Sportback, produced by SAIC Audi. This variant also features an elongated design, measuring 4,903 mm in length. While its mechanical configuration closely mirrors that of the A5L, it stands out with additional high-end amenities. Notably, it includes a nine-zone intelligent panoramic sunroof capable of changing opacity in milliseconds. Audi has also added a 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, ambient lighting, and luxurious 12-way power-adjustable massaging front seats. The model is powered by a mild-hybrid 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that outputs 268 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and Audi’s standard all-wheel drive. The A5L Sportback accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds.

The A6L e-tron represents Audi’s foray into long-range electric sedans tailored for China. Also created by FAW Audi, it features a 132 mm longer wheelbase than the standard A6, which translates into spacious second-row seating and added comfort. This model comes with an advanced dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and adaptive air suspension for a smoother ride. Most impressively, its larger 107 kWh battery allows for an estimated driving range of 770 km on a single charge. A 270 kW DC fast charger can recharge the battery from 10% to 80% in roughly 20 minutes, making it practical for long-distance travel.

Finally, the Q5L, Audi’s long-wheelbase SUV offering, is 125 mm longer than the regular Q5. This stretch results in a noticeable boost in interior space, especially for rear passengers. The Q5L is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine designed to deliver responsive performance while maintaining fuel efficiency.
