The BMW i4 M50 was unveiled for the U.S, and the carmaker completely revealed the price and features for the US market.
The BMW i4 eDrive40 is powered by a single electric motor at the back axle, which produces 335 horsepower and 416 Nm of torque between 0 and 5,000 rpm. The vehicle is powered by an 81.5 kWh battery pack and a one-speed gearbox. BMW is quick to point out that its electric motors do not utilize rare earth materials and have a 93% efficiency ratio, compared to less than 40% for typical internal combustion engines.
The i4 eDrive40 can reach 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reach a max speed of 189 km/h.
The battery powering the i4 eDrive40 is the fifth generation of high-voltage BMW eDrive batteries, consisting of four 72-cell modules and three 12-cell modules. With a total capacity of 81.5 kWh, the i4 eDrive40 is expected to have a range of roughly 482 kilometers on the EPA cycle. The i4 eDrive40 electric car also enables rapid charging at up to 200 kW, allowing for an additional 90 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes.
The i4 eDrive40's center of gravity is 2.1 inches lower than that of a regular 3-Series sedan, due to the battery pack.
Lift-related shock absorbers, rear air suspension, electromechanical steering with Servotronic function, a sophisticated Dynamic Stability Control system, and near-actuator wheel slip limiting are all standard equipment on the i4 eDrive40.
The i4 eDrive40's interior has a large 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 14.9-inch infotainment display merged into a single unit with a little curvature.
The screen runs the iDrive 8 software and receives over-the-air upgrades.
Head-Up Display, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, three-zone automated air conditioning, seat heating and ventilation, sunroof, ambient light system, and a 10-speaker audio system with a 205-watt amplifier are among the additional highlights within the interior.
An additional cost option is a Harman Kardon surround sound system with 16 speakers and a digital seven-channel amplifier.
On the i4 eDrive40, several driving aid technologies are standard or available, enabling the car Level 2 autonomy. Active Cruise Control with a Stop & Go function, Speed Limit Assist, and the Driving Assistance Professional system, which employs three front cameras, one front-facing radar, and four side radars to enable the usage of Steering and Lane Control Assistant, are among the key features.
The BMW i4 eDrive40 model will be available in the United States in the first quarter of 2022. Prices begin at $55,400 plus a $995 destination fee.
