An innovative and sleek new luxury MPV for China is the Buick GL8 Century. This is the second-generation Buick GL8, also known as the Buick GL8 Land Business. With updates in 2016, 2020, and most recently in 2022, production began in 2010.
The Buick GL8 Century is a very recent addition to the long-running GL8 series. It offers all the luxury one could want, but the powertrain is decidedly old-school when compared to the many completely electric or plug-in hybrid MPVs on the market right now from Chinese automakers. The price is 32.110 USD at launch.
Both the GL8 ES and GL8 have seven seats. There are four, six, or seven seats available for the GL8 Century. The same platform serves as the basis for all three GL8 generations. Therefore, this article's title: The GL8 Century is relatively new, though not entirely.
The car's dimensions are 5230mm long, 1980mm broad, and 1867mm height, and it has a 3120mm wheelbase.
The top trim level of both the GL8 ES and the new GL8 Century is referred to as "Avenir," which is the top-trim level with attractive wheels and two-tone paint, which is a little confusing.
The same 2.0 turbo + 48V motor that powers the other GL8s also powers the GL8 Century. It is a four-cylinder, 2.0 turbo + 48V engine with 237 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque that is connected to a 9-speed automated transmission. Past options for the GL8 ES and GL8 included a 2.5 four-cylinder and a 3.0 V6 engine.
The passengers can use any app they choose because it has a 5G internet connection. For more connectivity, it has Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife. The 18-way heated, Nappa-leather captain seats allow the passengers to observe. An 8-inch touch screen is used to operate the seats and the infotainment system. The vehicle also has a 21-speaker "Bose Executive Edition" audio system, which includes speakers built into the seat backs. On the Avenir, the ceiling has a starry sky as standard. Not to mention, there is a huge 32-inch screen.
For entertainment and seat-adjustment, the second row seats in the six-seat version have 6-inch touch screens built into the arm rests.
The legs have plenty of room, even in the six-seat version. The interior is made airy by the panoramic roof and two-tone decor.
Buick has not yet made available official pictures of the GL8 Century's dashboard. In an effort to get further media attention, Chinese automakers frequently provide pictures of the dashboard separately.
