BYD Debuts DM-i Hybrid Technology On Qin Plus

BYD debuted a new technology called DM-i hybrid technology alongside a new 1.5-liter engine known as the Xiao yun. BYD is going to use new technology and engine in its future plug-in hybrid vehicles. This new PHEV engine has a Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE) of 43% which is the highest number for gasoline engines that are in production. The new DM-i Hybrid technology by BYD supports all emission standards of China and offers better fuel efficiency compared to the old PHEV systems. It also promises faster acceleration, smoother side and reduced fuel consumption. All these improvements come with no raise in price.

About the Xiao yun engine, it has an ultra-high compression ratio of 15.5 and can run on the Atkinson cycle. It also benefits from an Exhaust Gas Recirculation system (EGR) and some friction-reducing technologies.

It is said that the first model that is going to get the new hybrid engine is a sedan called Qin Plus that debuted at the Guangzhou 2020 expo. The 1.5-liter naturally aspirated internal combustion engine alongside a single electric motor has an average fuel consumption of 3.8 l/100km. This engine is powerful also that can sprint the car from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. While there is no word about EV range yet but it is also said that the combined range is over 1,000 kilometers.

BYD Qin Plus is set to launch in the market by the first half of 2021.
