The BYD YangWang U7 sedan's key specifications have emerged online subsequent to the recent unveiling of initial photos of the electric vehicle by the Chinese automaker. While prior knowledge hinted at the YangWang U7 boasting over 1,000 hp to rival the Tesla Model S Plaid, details disclosed online by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology now confirm that the car will debut with four electric motors amalgamating to deliver 1,287 hp. To contextualize this, the Model S Plaid boasts 1,025 hp, whereas the current BMW M5 Competition offers 600 horsepower.
Powering the four electric motors is a 135.5 kWh LFP battery pack. Despite the monumental power output, this substantial battery is anticipated to grant the vehicle a range of up to 800 km on the Chinese cycle, although the base model will likely be limited to 720 km.
While specific acceleration figures remain undisclosed at present, reports from Chinese media suggest that the car could attain a maximum speed of 270 km/h, which, if accurate, falls notably short of the Tesla’s 322 km/h.
Aligned with many other electric vehicles on the market, the design team behind the YangWang U7 prioritized aerodynamic efficiency, resulting in an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.195 Cd.
While numerous exterior images of the car have been circulated, details regarding the interior remain scarce. Nevertheless, it is speculated that the cabin will be equipped with an array of screens akin to the U8 SUV, alongside plush materials and accents.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that the YangWang U7 will come equipped with a lidar sensor and is expected to feature Level 3 semi-autonomous driving capabilities upon its market debut.
With its monstrous power, impressive range, and cutting-edge tech, the BYD YangWang U7 is poised to shake up the luxury electric car segment. While pricing and exact launch date remain unknown, one thing is clear: this Chinese-built beast is ready to roar, and the world is waiting to see if it can live up to its electrifying potential.
