Changan UNI-Z plug-in hybrid compact SUV hit the Chinese market on March 28th. Pre-sales for two models commenced earlier this year, offering consumers a pricing spectrum ranging from $17,900 to $18,900.
The dimensions of the Changan UNI-Z measure 4730/1890/1680 mm, boasting a wheelbase of 2795 mm. Notable from the side profile is the blackened C-pillar, imparting a floating roof illusion, complemented by multi-spoke aluminum alloy rims and a panoramic sunroof. Moving to the front, the UNI series' signature borderless inverted trapezoidal grille design, adorned with a matrix structure, maintains a prominent presence. At the rear, a through-type LED taillight set accompanies two exhaust outlets positioned at the bottom.
Internally, the cabin is enveloped in expansive leather material, featuring a streamlined layout with minimal physical buttons. Anchoring the technological ensemble is a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, a commanding 14.6-inch central control screen, and a sleek flat-bottom steering wheel. Noteworthy configurations include integration with Huawei HiCar and Amap from Alibaba for real-time navigation, a premium Sony audio system, customizable 64-color ambient lighting, a built-in driving recorder, Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, facial recognition, and voice recognition capabilities. Additionally, the front seats boast integrated headrests, with the top-tier model offering electric adjustment, ventilation, and heating functionalities.
Under the hood, power is derived from Changan's innovative Blue Whale iDD plug-in hybrid system, featuring a 1.5L engine coupled with an electric motor and E-CVT transmission. The combustion engine yields 97 hp and 125 Nm, while the electric motor delivers an impressive 214 hp and 330 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is accomplished in a swift 7.4 seconds, with a top speed capped at 180 km/h. Facilitating emission-free driving, the UNI-Z is equipped with an 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, endowing it with a commendable pure electric range of 125 km (CLTC). However, the official comprehensive range remains undisclosed at present.
Safety features are paramount, with the vehicle boasting a standard level 2 advanced driving assistance system. This includes functionalities such as lane departure and forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane centering assist, traffic sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control, enhancing both convenience and safety on the road.
