Chery Jaecoo J7 Debuts At Beijing Auto Show

Jaecoo, the overseas-focused sub-brand of Chery, is poised to make its mark in the British automotive market during the summer of 2024. Leading the charge is the Jaecoo J7, the brand's inaugural model, which recently made its debut at the prestigious Beijing Auto Show. A rebranded plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the acclaimed Chery Tansuo 06, the Jaecoo J7 presents a compelling blend of performance, style, and innovation tailored for discerning consumers.

Resembling its Chery counterpart, the Jaecoo J7 maintains a striking exterior aesthetic, distinguished primarily by the prominent "JAECOO" logo adorning the front grille. Sharing the dimensions of its predecessor, the 2024 Chery Tansuo 06, the Jaecoo J7 measures 4538 mm in length, 1898 mm in width, 1680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2672 mm. Noteworthy exterior features include a suspended roof design, concealed door handles, and elegant five-spoke rims, accentuated by the inclusion of a panoramic sunroof for an enhanced driving experience.

Under the hood, the Jaecoo J7 harnesses the power of a sophisticated plug-in hybrid system, comprising a 1.6T engine complemented by dual electric motors. With a robust output of 194 horsepower and a peak torque of 290 Nm, the vehicle boasts commendable performance credentials, achieving an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 8 seconds. Offering versatility for various driving conditions, the Jaecoo J7 supports seven terrain driving modes, ensuring optimal adaptability on diverse road surfaces. While the comprehensive cruising range extends up to 1,200 km, the pure electric cruising range is estimated at approximately 100 km, although official confirmation of the powertrain specifications from Chery is still pending.

Inside the cabin, the Jaecoo J7 mirrors the luxurious appointments found in the Chery Tansuo 06. A 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, paired with a 14.8-inch vertical central control screen, forms the centerpiece of the technologically advanced cockpit, complemented by a distinctive D-shaped steering wheel. Equipped with a level 2 advanced driving assistance system, the Jaecoo J7 prioritizes safety with features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and blind spot detection. Additional comfort and convenience amenities include seat heating, seat ventilation, and a refrigeration function integrated into the center console.

In anticipation of its global expansion, Jaecoo has announced plans to accept reservations for the J7 in Malaysia, offering both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options to cater to diverse consumer preferences. The initial batch is slated for delivery to Malaysian customers in the third quarter of the year, setting the stage for an exciting debut in the international market.

As Jaecoo sets its sights on the United Kingdom, prospective buyers can expect the Jaecoo J7 to make its grand entrance in June 2024, with an estimated starting price of £40,000 ($50,000).
