Chery has officially announced that presales for its new flagship plug-in hybrid sedan, the Fulwin A9L, will commence on June 25, with a formal market launch set for early July in China. This model, which was earlier introduced as the Fulwin A9, represents Chery’s entry into the highly competitive midsize-to-large sedan segment, where it will rival popular contenders such as the BYD Han DM-i and the Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 PHEV.
The Fulwin A9L is not just limited to the Chinese market. Chery has confirmed that the vehicle is also being prepared for a global rollout in the first quarter of 2026. This move is part of Chery’s broader international expansion strategy. Company executives emphasized that the proceeds from Chery’s upcoming initial public offering (IPO) will be primarily allocated to the development of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and efforts to expand into overseas markets, reinforcing Chery’s long-term focus on technological innovation and sustainability.
In terms of design, the Fulwin A9L boasts a modern and aerodynamic fastback silhouette with a low drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd. The vehicle’s front end features a sealed grille and a sleek LED light bar that spans the width of the car. At the rear, it sports full-width tail lights, a black-out bumper with silver highlights, and an active rear spoiler. The sedan measures 5,018 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, riding on a 3,000 mm wheelbase and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, giving it a bold, upscale presence.
Under the hood, the A9L is powered by Chery’s latest Kunpeng Super Hybrid Electric 6.0 system, which pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 160 kW and 310 Nm of torque with a stepless DHT Pro transmission. It incorporates a 33.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate Kunpeng Blade Battery, allowing the sedan to travel up to 260 km on electric power alone. When combined with the gasoline engine, the total range stretches to an impressive 2,000 km.
Inside, the Fulwin A9L offers a refined and luxurious interior with suede-inspired trim, chrome accents, and knurled metallic switchgear. Buyers can choose between black-red or brown-white dual-tone cabin themes. Thanks to its long wheelbase and dual sunroof configuration, the sedan provides ample space and natural light for rear passengers. The seats are designed with dual-layer foam padding and extended cushions for better thigh support. A standard rear center armrest is also included for additional comfort.
Technology-wise, the infotainment system is powered by the Snapdragon 8255 chipset, a sophisticated computing unit adapted from Qualcomm’s 8295 platform. For driver assistance, the A9L incorporates a comprehensive suite of 27 smart sensors, including LiDAR, millimeter-wave radars, ultrasonic sensors, and 360-degree cameras. These are integrated with the Orin Y 200T autonomous driving platform, enabling features such as memory parking, Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) for both city and highway, automated lane changes, and blind spot monitoring. Some versions may lack LiDAR, instead offering standard Level 2 autonomous driving functions.
The Fulwin A9L made its public debut at the Hong Kong International Automotive and Supply Chain Expo on June 12, where it drew considerable attention from young, tech-savvy male visitors. Chery is positioning this premium sedan at a competitive price range, estimated between $20,700 and $27,600, which may appeal to a wide audience looking for a high-tech, long-range hybrid vehicle.
