Chevrolet Recalls Hundreds of Vehicles Over Door Striker Issue

Author: |

General Motors has issued a recall for hundreds of 2025 Chevrolet Blazer, Blazer EV, and Equinox EV models in the United States due to a critical safety concern. The affected vehicles were equipped with door strikers that could unexpectedly open while driving or during a crash, posing a significant risk to occupants.

The recall stems from a faulty batch of door strikers sourced from Brano Group A.S. These strikers, which were not properly heat-treated to meet GM's hardness specifications, were susceptible to cracking under pressure. As a result, the doors could swing open unexpectedly, potentially leading to injuries.

A total of 731 vehicles in the U.S. are affected by the recall. These include 513 Blazers, 215 Blazer EV models, and 3 Equinox EVs, all manufactured between August and September 2024. Notably, none of these vehicles have been delivered to customers, as the recall was initiated before any affected models left dealership lots.

The issue was first discovered by a quality engineer at GM's Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico on September 6, 2024, when a door striker was observed to fracture during a routine side door adjustment. This incident prompted a thorough investigation, which revealed that the faulty door strikers were part of a larger batch that had not been entirely removed from a warehouse used by the Mexican plant.

While GM has not received any reports of field incidents related to the defect, the company is taking proactive measures to address the issue. Dealers have been instructed to replace all four side door strikers and attaching bolts with new, properly treated parts before the affected vehicles are made available for sale.

This is not the first time GM has faced issues with door strikers on these models. In late December 2023, a similar recall was issued for the Blazer, Blazer EV, and Equinox EV due to faulty door strikers. However, it appears that not all of the suspect stock was removed from the warehouse, leading to the installation of several hundred faulty strikers in new vehicles.

The latest recall serves as a reminder of the importance of quality control and supplier oversight in the automotive industry. GM's swift action to address the issue demonstrates its commitment to customer safety and product integrity.
