Mercedes-Benz Australia has introduced new City Edition versions of its EQA250+ and EQB250+ electric SUVs, offering buyers a more cost-effective option in the small and medium electric SUV categories. These special editions are priced lower than their regular counterparts and, importantly, sit below the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles. This strategic pricing makes the City Editions especially appealing to buyers looking for luxury electric vehicles without incurring additional tax costs.
The City Edition variants of the EQA and EQB have been designed to balance value and comfort. Instead of the 20-inch wheels and adaptive suspension featured in the standard models, the City Editions come with 19-inch AMG alloy wheels and a comfort-oriented suspension setup. This change not only reduces cost but also enhances ride comfort, making the City Editions more suitable for everyday urban driving.
Despite the lower price, Mercedes-Benz has retained many of the high-end features found in the regular EQA250+ and EQB250+ models. Buyers will still enjoy heated and electrically adjustable front seats with memory functions, metallic paint, a panoramic glass sunroof, ‘Artico’ artificial leather and microfiber interior trim, and a premium nappa leather steering wheel. Advanced driver assistance and safety systems such as AMG Line exterior styling, adaptive high-beam assist, a 360-degree camera, active parking assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and active lane keeping assist remain standard.
The EQB250+ City Edition continues to offer impressive practicality with a third-row seat that folds flat, allowing the SUV to carry up to seven passengers. The sliding second-row seats, which provide added flexibility for passenger or cargo space, are also included.
In terms of pricing, the EQA250+ City Edition starts at $80,700 plus on-road costs, which is $5100 less than the standard EQA250+. Meanwhile, the EQB250+ City Edition begins at $85,400, undercutting the regular version by $4600. Since both are priced below the current $91,387 LCT threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles (for the 2025–2026 financial year), they offer buyers the benefit of avoiding the additional tax — unless optional extras are added that push the price above the threshold.
Both models are powered by the same electric drivetrain: a 140kW and 385Nm motor that sends power to the front wheels. They are equipped with a 70.5kWh battery pack. The EQA250+ City Edition has a claimed range of 578 kilometres, while the EQB250+ is rated at 564 kilometres, with figures based on the NEDC test cycle.
Mercedes-Benz sweetens the deal further by including a complimentary three-year service plan valued at $2160, along with 12 months of free access to the Chargefox public charging network. These City Edition models are now available for order at Mercedes-Benz dealerships across Australia, offering a compelling mix of luxury, practicality, and value for those entering the electric vehicle market.
