DeLorean EVolved Teased, First All Electric Car

DeLorean released a teaser for its first electric vehicle, which will be released in 2022. The DeLorean EVolved, as it's known, has gullwing doors and looks like a modernized version of the DMC-12 from the early 1980s.

The current DeLorean Motor Company isn't giving up many specifics about the vehicle just yet, but it plans to reveal it later this year.

The new DeLorean will be all-electric and will place a greater emphasis on luxury. It will be developed by Italdesign and constructed by the DeLorean Motor Company, based in Humble, Texas, and owned by Liverpool-born engineer Stephen Wynne. There's no news on cost or availability, but we're guessing it'll be a limited-run model.

The teaser is vague, but it indicates a dynamic shape with gullwing doors, a more sculpted bonnet, and an illuminated V symbol on the grille. When the doors are open, a light signature at the front includes a V-shaped element in the center that conjures the vehicle's profile.

The EV-specific design can produce up to 1,341 horsepower and a maximum range of 1,000 km.

Italdesign Giugiaro was in charge of the unique aesthetic of the original DeLorean. Giorgetto Giugiaro, the company's creator, had a propensity for designing wedge-shaped automobiles in the 1970s and 1980s.
