This is the latest Mercedes-Maybach S480, which is unique to the Chinese market, though some speculate that it may be released in the West as the S450. The new Maybach S480 is far from entry-level, as it is still clad in the finest fabrics and includes everything expected of a premium sedan.
The official price begins at RMB 1,458,000, which equates to US $224,655 at current exchange rates, and it is currently the only Maybach S-Class available in Chinese market. Nonetheless, S580 and S650 models are expected to join it, with 496 HP twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and 621 HP bi-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engines.
Mercedes calls this car the S450 rather than the S480 because it uses the same engine as the Benz S-Class, a 3.0-liter gasoline unit with mild hybrid assistance. Both cars have a combined output of 362 HP and 500 Nm of torque.
Because of the disparity in size and weight, the Maybach S480 is marginally slower than the S450 in the 100 km/h sprint, taking 5.8 seconds to 5.1 seconds for the S450. The new six-cylinder Maybach has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h and a fuel economy of 8.56 l/100 km.
If you want to compare the Chinese pricing with the U.S, The new Maybach S-Class will be available in the United States with an MSRP of $184,900, minus the $1,050 destination fee.
