The eagerly anticipated 2024 iteration of the Radar RD6 pickup truck has officially opened up for blind reservations, tantalizing enthusiasts with its all-wheel-drive capabilities. While crucial details such as pricing remain veiled, Geely has divulged significant insights into the latest offering, now dubbed the Radar Horizon in its 4WD configuration, boasting an impressive acceleration time of 4.5 seconds, rivaled only by the Tesla Cybertruck in the realm of production pickups.
Aesthetically, the updated model exhibits subtle alterations from its rear-wheel-drive predecessor. Most conspicuous is the prominent display of "RADAR" emblazoned across what appears to be a more enclosed grille. Additionally, a discreet 4WD badge adorns the rear tailgate. Dimensions remain consistent, measuring 5260 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1880 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 3120 mm. The cargo box maintains dimensions of 1525 mm (length), 1450 mm (width), and 540 mm (height), providing a capacious 1200 liters of cargo space. Addressing a previous drawback of limited payload capacity, the new model boasts an increased payload of 865 kg.
Powering the Radar Horizon RD6 is a dual high-performance permanent magnet synchronous electric drive system, delivering a peak total power output of 428 hp and a peak torque of 594 Nm. This robust propulsion enables the pickup to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 4.5 seconds, with a top speed reaching 190 km/h. Notably, the vehicle showcases impressive off-road capabilities, with a wading depth of 815 mm and climbing degrees of 95% (no-load) and 65% (full-load). A tight turning radius of 3.5 meters enhances maneuverability, while a new super external discharge function provides a maximum power of 21 kW, transforming the pickup into a versatile on-site power source.
Equipped with seven driving modes, including specialized off-road settings, the Radar Horizon RD6 offers intuitive control facilitated by voice commands. An intelligent all-terrain feedback system dynamically adjusts torque distribution across all four wheels, optimizing traction in diverse environments. Geely initially introduced the rear-wheel-drive RD6 variant in 2022, with assurances of an all-wheel-drive rendition by 2023. Despite the prolonged anticipation, the enhanced capabilities of the Horizon model justify the wait. Pricing for the 2WD variant currently ranges from 145,800 to 268,800 yuan ($20,150 to $37,200), with expectations of a premium for the all-wheel-drive Horizon. Geely's commitment to export the Radar extends to the 4WD iteration, promising broader accessibility beyond domestic markets.
