Ford believes that demand for all-electric vehicles among law enforcement agencies is increasing globally. Since a result, the Ford Mustang Mach-E may soon be patrolling Michigan's highways, as the company is submitting the EV to Michigan State Police testing. This is being treated as a pilot initiative by Ford, and it will be included in the agency's 2022 model year police evaluation program.
The police-use Mach-E that Ford is displaying looks identical to the road-going variant, and it lacks a light bar on the roof, so the police Mach-E seems identical to the road-going type.
There are no inside photographs displaying the equipment we'd expect to see in a police car, such as radios or additional displays.
Earlier this month, Ford unveiled a design for a Mach-E police car for the United Kingdom. It was much more heavily modified than the one in America, with a light bar and a control panel for it.
In general, a police car receives things like extra coolers for the engine oil and transmission fluid, but the Mach-E doesn't require them because it is an EV and can be used for missions like keeping a watch on a place or surveilling a suspect.
Technically, the fastest Mach-E is the GT Performance Edition variant, which has 480 horsepower and 860 Newton-meters of torque. It can reach 96 kph in around 3.5 seconds, which is impressive for police personnel.
