Geely Auto has unveiled a new, rugged variant of its popular Icon SUV, aptly named the Cowboy. This off-road-oriented vehicle made its debut at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, showcasing a series of design enhancements and practical features.

The Cowboy maintains the Icon's core dimensions, measuring 4,442 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,770 mm tall, with a 2,640 mm wheelbase. This sizing places it in direct competition with models like the Toyota Corolla Cross, though the Cowboy's taller stance, thanks to additional roof-mounted gear, sets it apart.

The most striking visual differences between the Cowboy and the Icon lie in its exterior. The former boasts redesigned bumpers, chunkier side protection, and generous amounts of plastic cladding around the wheel arches, lending it a more rugged and adventurous appearance. Other distinctive elements include a roof rack with integrated LED lights, unique 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, and a rear storage compartment for wet or dirty items, similar to the Land Rover Defender. The Cowboy is offered in four eye-catching color options: Snow White, Jungle Green, Volcanic Gray, and Desert Brown.

Inside, the Cowboy's cabin shares similarities with the Icon's but with a few notable enhancements. It features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster separate from the 14.6-inch infotainment display, bulkier A/C vents reminiscent of the pre-facelift Icon, and a total of 42 storage compartments for added practicality.

Under the hood, the Cowboy utilizes Geely's B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA) and is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine delivering 178 hp and 290 Nm of torque. Despite its off-road-inspired aesthetics, the Cowboy is a front-wheel-drive vehicle, transmitting power through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Geely Cowboy is already available in the Chinese market, priced competitively at $13,200. Interestingly, this pricing undercuts the standard Geely Icon, which starts at $13,400. This strategic pricing positions the Cowboy as an attractive option for buyers seeking a rugged and affordable SUV.
