Great Wall Motor (GWM), a prominent Chinese automotive manufacturer, has significantly bolstered its Haval brand's portfolio with the highly anticipated launch of the second-generation Xiaolong Max all-wheel-drive (AWD) plug-in hybrid SUV. This latest offering debuted on April 16th in the Chinese market, presenting consumers with a selection of five distinct trim levels. These trims are strategically priced within the range of 131,800 to 169,800 yuan, which translates to an approximate price bracket of 18,000 to 23,300 US dollars. The initial market response to this new vehicle has been overwhelmingly positive, evidenced by an impressive tally of 16,368 firm orders secured within the first 24 hours following its official introduction.

The exterior design of the second-generation Xiaolong Max showcases GWM's adoption of a design philosophy they term "natural rhythmic aesthetics." This approach is manifested in several striking visual elements. The front fascia is dominated by sophisticated matrix headlights, comprising a total of 72 individual LED units, ensuring optimal illumination and a distinctive light signature. A contemporary dotted through-type light strip further accentuates the vehicle's width and modern appeal. At the rear, the "Bright Galaxy" taillights serve as another key design highlight, incorporating 332 ultra-red LED units operating at a wavelength of 628 nanometers, creating a visually captivating presence. The side profile of the SUV is characterized by a stylish floating roof design, practical roof racks for added versatility, and eye-catching 19-inch five-spoke dual-color alloy wheels, contributing to its dynamic stance.

Classified as a medium-sized SUV, the second-generation Haval Xiaolong Max offers generous interior dimensions. It measures 4780 millimeters in length, 1895 millimeters in width, and 1725 millimeters in height, with a substantial wheelbase of 2810 millimeters. This wheelbase contributes to the vehicle's interior spaciousness and ride comfort. Customers are offered a palette of five exterior color options to personalize their vehicle: a classic white, a sleek black, a vibrant aurora green, a more subdued forest green, and a sophisticated gray.

Inside the cabin, the Xiaolong Max features a contemporary T-shaped dashboard layout, emphasizing a driver-centric design. The driver is presented with a flat-bottom steering wheel, adding a sporty touch, and a high-resolution 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, providing comprehensive vehicle information. A head-up display (HUD) is also available, although it is exclusive to the top-of-the-line trim level, projecting crucial driving data onto the windshield. The centerpiece of the infotainment system is a large 14.6-inch central control touchscreen, powered by GWM's intelligent CoffeeOS 3 smart cockpit system. This advanced system supports both voice recognition and facial recognition functionalities, enhancing user interaction and convenience.

The Xiaolong Max is equipped with an advanced driving assistance system known as Coffee Pilot Plus. This system utilizes a pure vision camera-based solution, complemented by three millimeter-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic radars, and seven cameras. This comprehensive sensor suite enables the vehicle to achieve city and highway navigation on autopilot capabilities on selected trim levels, significantly enhancing driver assistance and safety.

The interior of the Xiaolong Max is available in three color schemes: a light and airy white, a warm brown, and a classic black. The standard seating configuration accommodates five occupants. Practicality is further enhanced by the inclusion of 28 thoughtfully designed storage spaces throughout the cabin and a substantial 540-liter trunk capacity, which can be expanded to an impressive 1366 liters with the rear seats folded down, offering ample cargo space for various needs.

Enhancing passenger comfort, the front seats are equipped with 3-speed adjustable ventilation and heating functions, as well as an 8-point massage system. The rear seats also offer a heating function and support a 2-speed backrest adjustment, catering to the comfort of rear occupants. Additional convenience features include a 50W wireless charging pad for compatible devices, over-the-air (OTA) software update capabilities, remote control functionality, a built-in WiFi hotspot, customizable 64-color ambient lighting, keyless entry, and a heated steering wheel.

At the heart of the Haval Xiaolong Max lies GWM's in-house developed Hi4 plug-in hybrid system. This powertrain comprises a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 114 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque, a front-mounted electric motor generating 94 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque, and a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 201 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. These power sources are seamlessly integrated with a 2-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The combined system output is an impressive 319 horsepower, with a total system torque of 595 Nm. This powertrain enables the SUV to achieve a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour and accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in a brisk 6.8 seconds. Two lithium iron phosphate battery pack options are offered: an 18.74 kWh pack providing a claimed CLTC pure electric range of 110 kilometers, and a larger 27.54 kWh pack (available on higher-end trims) extending the pure electric range to 165 kilometers under the same CLTC testing cycle. The vehicle boasts a remarkably low WLTC comprehensive fuel consumption figure of just 0.97 liters per 100 kilometers. While GWM has not yet officially disclosed the total comprehensive driving range achievable with a full battery and a full tank of gasoline, the provided figures suggest a highly efficient and versatile vehicle. For recharging, the Xiaolong Max supports both fast and slow charging. Using a fast charger, it takes approximately 30 to 20 minutes to replenish the battery from 30% to 80% state of charge, while a full charge using a slow charger takes between three and four hours, depending on the specific trim level and battery capacity.
