The latest Jeep teaser, released before the company's Utah off-roading spectacular, hints that an improved version of a concept first seen last year is on the way. That means a totally electric vehicle is on the way.
The Jeep Wrangler Magneto idea debuted as an all-electric off-roader based on a two-door Rubicon. The image supplied by the firm shows little other than a decal with "Magneto 2.0" on it and a playful hood bulge, the latest in a long line of designs revealed ahead of the Easter Jeep Safari 2022.
We've also seen the number 20 previously. An earlier 2022 Easter Jeep Safari teaser shows the hood of a Wrangler Rubicon with the number 20 written in minuscule writing. The Rubicon trim will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, and we feel the concept could be a preview of a 20th-anniversary edition that will go into production.
The design ditched the Wrangler's standard powerplant in favor of an all-electric one powered by a quartet of battery packs strategically arranged throughout the chassis for maximum weight distribution and totaling 70 kWh of power.
An electric engine produced 285 horsepower and 370 Newton-meters of torque, which were sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. According to Jeep, that was enough to propel the off-roader to 96 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
Jeep intends to have four identical battery packs with ranges ranging from 500 to 800 kilometers and support for quick charging.
With a variety of motor options ranging from 94 hp in the smallest, most cheap vehicles to 443 hp in the largest, vehicles on the chassis may generate up to 885 horsepower by combining motors for all-wheel-drive applications.
The Easter Jeep Safari 2022 begins on April 9. That means there's still time for further hints to emerge. It will be accompanied by two 4x4 models as well as numerous more off-road-ready Jeep concepts for the Easter Safari.
