The Jetour Freedom, an off-road SUV poised to expand Jetour's lineup, is set to officially launch on February 14th. This launch comes just three months after its initial unveiling at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, where it also entered the pre-sale phase. Positioned strategically below the Jetour Traveller, which carries a starting price of 139,900 yuan ($19,200), the Freedom is anticipated to be even more accessible, broadening its appeal to a wider range of consumers.

The Jetour Freedom can be viewed as the gasoline-powered counterpart to the Jetour Shanhai T1 plug-in hybrid off-road SUV. These two models share a common design language, exhibiting identical shapes and body dimensions. Both measure 4706 mm in length, 1967 mm in width, and 1845 mm in height, with a shared wheelbase of 2810 mm. The front fascia of the Jetour Freedom features distinctive petal-shaped headlights, flanking a center grille prominently displaying the brand's lettering. A luggage rack is a standard feature on the roof, enhancing the vehicle's practicality for adventure seekers. Interestingly, unlike many other off-road SUVs, the Freedom's rear design does not incorporate an external container, a departure from the traditional off-road aesthetic.

Inside the cabin, the Jetour Freedom mirrors the design of the Jetour Shanhai T1. A D-shaped steering wheel provides a modern touch, while the driver is presented with a 10.25-inch embedded full LCD instrument panel, providing essential vehicle information at a glance. A large, 15.6-inch floating central control screen, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, serves as the command center for the infotainment system. The center console is thoughtfully designed, incorporating a 50W mobile phone wireless charging pad, a rotary knob for selecting various driving modes, convenient cupholders, and a substantial gear lever. Both the driver and co-pilot seats offer electric adjustments, with 6-way adjustability for the driver and 4-way adjustability for the co-pilot. Furthermore, both front seats are equipped with ventilation and heating functions, ensuring comfort in all weather conditions. The second row of seats features a center armrest and an integrated LCD touch panel, allowing passengers to control seat heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Other notable features include Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems, a generous 64-inch sunroof, double-layer soundproof glass for a quieter cabin, and rear privacy glass.

Under the hood, the Jetour Freedom offers a choice of two engine options: a 1.5T turbocharged engine and a more powerful 2.0T turbocharged engine. These engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) and an 8-speed automatic transmission (8AT), respectively. The 1.5T engine delivers a maximum power output of 181 horsepower and a peak torque of 290 Nm, while the 2.0T engine boasts a more substantial 251 horsepower and a peak torque of 390 Nm. For enhanced off-road capability, the Jetour Freedom utilizes BorgWarner’s sixth-generation four-wheel-drive system. This advanced system offers 7+X driving modes, with the "X" mode possessing the ability to intelligently analyze road conditions and automatically distribute torque to the wheels as needed, according to Chery. This intelligent torque distribution system promises to optimize traction and performance in a variety of terrains.
