Mazda has unveiled an exciting new version of its sleek electric sedan, and it’s turning heads with its enhanced sporty design. Known as the 6e in Western markets, the car is marketed as the EZ-6 in China, where Mazda has teamed up with its local partner, Changan, to introduce the **EZ-6 Sports Edition**. This new variant gives the already stylish sedan a much-needed injection of athletic character, aimed at enthusiasts who crave a more performance-inspired appearance—similar to how BMW’s M Sport trim elevates its lineup.
Visually, the Sports Edition differentiates itself with a more aggressive, race-ready aesthetic. It features glossy black exterior accents, striking 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels, and red-painted brake calipers, all of which contribute to a bold and commanding road presence. Inside, the sporty touches continue with Alcantara upholstery that enhances the premium feel of the cabin. Red contrast stitching and additional red seat details add a dynamic flair to the otherwise sophisticated interior layout.
Further interior upgrades include red ambient lighting and a new mesh-pattern console applique reminiscent of sportier Mazda CX-60 trims. As with the standard EZ-6, the Sports Edition is packed with cutting-edge tech features. It comes equipped with a large 14.6-inch infotainment display, a state-of-the-art 50-inch augmented reality head-up display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and an immersive 14-speaker Sony sound system—ensuring both luxury and technology are front and center.
Despite its bold presentation, there is currently no confirmation that the Sports Edition offers any mechanical upgrades over the standard version. Mazda and Changan have not announced any increase in horsepower or performance tweaks, suggesting this may be a visual and trim package rather than a true performance variant. However, speculation remains high that a similar version could soon launch in Europe. Car News China notes that the trim was jointly developed by Mazda and Changan in cooperation with Mazda Europe, hinting that a European release may be on the horizon.
It’s also worth noting that while both the Chinese and European models are produced at the same Changan facility, their powertrains differ significantly. The Chinese EZ-6 is available with either a 215-hp 1.5-liter range-extender or a fully electric 255-hp version. In contrast, the European 6e models are expected to be exclusively electric.
Mazda has yet to confirm whether the EZ-6 Sports Edition will make its way to international markets, what it might be called abroad, or if it will include any performance enhancements. Still, this new sporty trim adds a fresh layer of excitement to Mazda’s electric sedan lineup, catering to drivers who want more style without compromising on comfort or tech.
