The Great Wall Tank 500 Hi4-T, a plug-in hybrid vehicle, made its debut at the Chengdu Auto Show in 2021 as a variant of the gasoline-powered GWM Tank 500. In June, the PHEV model went on sale, with a starting price of $45,800 USD.
The appearance of the PHEV SUV is identical to that of the V6 model. Its 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engine produces 300 kW and 750 Nm of power. It has a four-wheel drive setup with a nine-speed Hydraulic Automatic Transmission (9HAT). The 9HAT gearbox is the first longitudinal 9-speed hydraulic automated transmission with a P2 hybrid configuration in China, according to the manufacturer.
An integrated 150kW electric motor is a feature of the 9HAT transmission. Battery 37.1 kWh is located in the back of the chassis. The automaker asserts that the powertrain allows for fuel-free city driving. Its WLTC range is more than 100 kilometers while operating in pure electric mode. The WLTC fuel consumption in hybrid mode is 2.3 L/100 km.
Last month, the Chinese-made off-road SUV sold 4,269 units. It was the Tank brand's second most popular model. Tank 300, an internal combustion engine (ICE) SUV, was the most popular, with over 10,000 units sold at retail. The ICE version of the Tank 500 came in third place, with just over 400 units sold. The car was the tenth most sold PHEV last month and has risen to the thirteenth rank based on three-month sales.
Over 20,000 orders have been placed for Great Wall Motor's off-road SUV, the Tank 500 Hi4-T, since the high-end plug-in hybrid vehicle went on presale at the Shanghai Auto Show in April. 9,328 mid-size plug-in hybrid vehicles have been sold at retail since the model's July introduction.
