The Firefly EV made its grand debut at Nio Day 2024 on December 21st, captivating the audience with its stylish design and an alluring starting price of $20,800. However, initial details were limited, leaving many eager for a more comprehensive understanding of the vehicle's capabilities. The recent MIIT filing has shed light on key specifications, providing a clearer picture of this exciting new entrant in the electric vehicle market.

The exterior styling of the Firefly EV largely adheres to the design showcased at Nio Day 2024, despite attracting some online commentary. Notably, Chinese netizens drew comparisons between the car's headlight and taillight designs and the iconic camera modules of Apple iPhones.

Moving beyond aesthetic observations, the Firefly EV boasts compact dimensions, measuring 4,003 millimeters in length, 1,781 millimeters in width, and 1,557 millimeters in height. The wheelbase spans 2,615 millimeters, contributing to a surprisingly spacious interior. The car's short overhangs – 680 millimeters at the front and 708 millimeters at the rear – enhance maneuverability and improve approach and departure angles, which measure 21 and 26 degrees respectively. Despite its compact stature, the Firefly EV rides on relatively large 215/50 R18 wheels, available in three distinct rim designs, further emphasizing its dynamic character.

The Firefly EV's lightweight construction, with a curb weight of 1,492 kilograms, contributes to its efficiency and agility. The gross vehicle weight reaches 1,875 kilograms, providing adequate capacity for passengers and cargo. The spacious cabin can comfortably accommodate up to five occupants, and for those seeking a touch of individuality, a blackened roof option will be available.

Powering the Firefly EV is a single, high-performance electric motor – the TZ160S010 – developed by Nio Technology. Strategically positioned on the rear axle, this motor generates a peak output of 141 horsepower, delivering impressive acceleration and dynamic driving characteristics. This potent motor draws its energy from a swappable LFP battery pack manufactured by Sunwoda. While the specific battery capacity remains undisclosed at this time, the Firefly EV is expected to offer a competitive range, with an initial estimate of 225 kilometers under the WLTP driving cycle based on a 75% state of charge.

The Firefly EV incorporates a sophisticated suspension system, featuring a five-link independent rear suspension meticulously engineered by Multimatic, renowned for its expertise in high-performance automotive components. The integration of Bosch's advanced Integrated Brake System (IPB) further enhances braking performance and stability. The vehicle boasts a balanced 50:50 weight distribution between the front and rear axles, optimizing handling and responsiveness.
