According to fresh rumors out of Germany, Mercedes-Benz has temporarily halted taking new G-Class orders in Europe. According to the MB Passion Blog, the carmaker will cease taking orders for the G-Class on January 17, 2022. This might be due to the fact that certain G-Class deliveries may not take place until the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the outlet.
Orders were suspended because the carmaker is changing the packages available with the G-Class, according to a source in the Netherlands. Orders will be reopened anytime between March and May, according to the source.
The company's North American subsidiary claims that this does not apply to the United States. A Mercedes-Benz USA spokeswoman confirmed that dealer ordering banks for the G-Class are still active. Despite Mercedes-steady Benz's drive toward electrification, there is no hint that the G-Class will be phased out anytime soon.
Mercedes-Benz debuted the EQG Concept at last year's Munich Motor Show to show off a potential all-electric G-Class. Many of the body panels on the exhibition car were the same as those on the ICE-powered G-Class, albeit with some more contemporary accents.
Given regulations in many regions throughout the world to phase out internal combustion engines, it appears that only an electric G-Class will be available after 2030.
