BMW M550i xDrive owners in 2021 are in luck, as the company has recently revealed an over-the-air upgrade that will add some performance.

BMW claims that the M550i xDrive takes just 3.6 seconds to reach 96 km/h, however, Car & Driver was only able to get a 4.1 second time while testing the sedan earlier this year. BMW engineers began looking into why the M550i xDrive was so much slower than it should have been soon after hearing about the rest findings. They quickly identified that a software problem was causing a misunderstanding between the engine computer and the vehicle's stability-control module.

After then, BMW released an over-the-air update to fix the problem. The magazine achieved a 0-60 mph pace of 3.5 seconds and a quarter-mile sprint time of 191 km/h.
