Peugeot 208 Racing Pays Homage to 106 Rallye

While Peugeot fans may long for the return of iconic names like GTI and Rallye, the company has chosen a different path. Instead of focusing on road-going performance models, Peugeot has turned its attention to motorsport, developing the 208 Racing.

Built on the foundation of the Peugeot 208 Rally4 and Citroen C3 Rally2, the 208 Racing offers an affordable entry point into the world of competitive driving. Under the hood lies a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine, delivering a respectable 143 horsepower. This power, combined with the car's lightweight design, provides ample performance for a small hatchback.

To further enhance its capabilities, the 208 Racing features a refined chassis setup, upgraded brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport PS5 tires. These modifications ensure excellent handling and durability on the track. The car also runs on superethanol-E85 fuel, contributing to reduced carbon emissions.

The 208 Racing is not just a track-focused machine; it's also designed to compete in the FR6 Trophy, a new rally series starting in 2025. This series will be part of the French Rally Cup, and Stellantis is the first manufacturer to join.

While the 208 Racing may not be a direct successor to the iconic 106 Rallye, it does evoke a sense of nostalgia. The car's distinctive livery and green accents are reminiscent of the classic model. Inside, the 208 Racing features a welded roll cage, automatic fire extinguisher, and a competition-specific electronic architecture.

Despite the absence of a road-going performance version, the 208 Racing offers a glimpse into Peugeot's commitment to motorsport. As the subcompact hot hatch segment continues to dwindle, Peugeot's focus on racing could be a refreshing change for fans of the brand.
