The SAIC Roewe iMax8 DMH plug-in hybrid MPV, a spacious and versatile vehicle, has recently made its debut, offering three trim levels priced between $27,800 and $34,900.
With impressive dimensions, the iMax8 measures 5016 mm in length, 1909 mm in width, and 1802 mm in height, riding on a 3000 mm wheelbase. Notably, it stands 14 mm taller than its gasoline-powered counterpart, and its curb weight clocks in at a substantial 2266 kg.
Visually, the iMax8 DMH mirrors the design of both its gasoline-powered and pure electric siblings. The front fascia retains the prominent inverted trapezoidal grille, while various sensors strategically placed around the vehicle enable advanced driver assistance functions. These sensors include a front camera discreetly positioned beneath the logo, two front ultrasonic radars, side cameras integrated into the external mirrors, and a rear camera mounted above the license plate.
Stepping inside, the cockpit exudes modernity with a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 12.8-inch floating central control screen. Powered by the AliOS operating system from Banma, the infotainment system offers voice recognition, 4G network connectivity, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. A standout feature is the newly designed double-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. Additional amenities include a 50W wireless phone charger, a premium sound system with either 6 or 8 speakers depending on the trim level, soundproof glass, remote control functionality, and keyless entry.
The iMax8 adopts a flexible 2+2+3 seven-seater layout, prioritizing passenger comfort. The driver's seat is equipped with heating, ventilation, massage, and four-way lumbar support functions. The second-row seats offer a generous 360 mm of fore-aft adjustment, while the third-row seats can slide 200 mm. A convenient foldable small table is integrated behind the front seats for added convenience.
Powering the iMax8 DMH is a 1.5T DMH plug-in hybrid system comprising a 1.5T engine and an electric motor, seamlessly working together through a dedicated hybrid transmission. The engine delivers a maximum power output of 148 hp and a peak torque of 235 Nm, while the electric motor contributes 236 hp and 390 Nm of torque. The vehicle boasts a 66-liter fuel tank and a top speed of 175 km/h.
The 24.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack enables a pure electric range of 135 km under the CLTC testing cycle. The official combined range is an impressive 1,536 km, and fuel consumption is rated at 4.71 liters per 100 kilometers. Fast charging capabilities allow the battery to be replenished from 30% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
