At the site of Balocco, Alfa Romea has an honorable history with its 1965 Giulia GTA. One again after 65 year, this site was the host of another perform by company. Recently the new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA with the “extreme” GTAm configuration is unveiled.
Giulia GTA in 1965 was really a legendary car. Not just the style but the engineering works on it should be respected. Once more, on the former Autodelta workshops at the Balocco Proving Ground (Vercelli province), the site of the 1960s creation of the Giulia Sprint GTA, we see the most recent model. The aesthetic and functional design, it the most important personality of the GTA. The bodywork of this car is really an impressive work. It has completely fortified the designers aim to show the power. The large intakes, technical elements in carbon fiber, both shout out the power of its heart. New active splitters on lower part, and large spoilers on the rear of car are other significant changes. On the sides, the carbon fiber side skirts, broadened front fender and the clearly visible carbon fiber on the rear wheel arches accentuate the car's “size impression”, with an image of power and dynamism.
We can see the the Akrapovič central exhaust system in titanium on this car. It’s built into the rear diffuser which is made by carbon fiber, and the 20-inch wheel rims with single locking nut, seen for the first time in a sedan, paired with specially selected Pilot Sport Cup 2 Michelin tires.
the Giulia GTA and GTAm will come in Etna Red, Trophy White and Montreal Green, a color palette that pays tribute to the Italian flag. But there are many very customized options for the customers to choose. Even the color of brake clapers is up to the buyers. It can be new gold (the same color would be available for the roll bar, seat belts and stitching).
Inside the car is realy WOW! On the dashboard is full Alcantara®. Also, for the door panels, glove compartment, side pillars, and the central trim on the seats the same material is used. This material is used to reduces the reflection of light on dashboard, so the drive is more concentrate. On the GTAm model Alcantara® is more extensively. By the GTAm version the rear seats are removed, so there is room for the fully upholstered “basin”, hosting specific moldings deigned to hold helmets and a fire extinguisher.
In the GTAm no rear door panels, and the front doors are opened with “pull loops” instead of a handle. And to rebuild the racing environment, the same colors as the 6-point SABELT seat belts for GTAm.
The Giulia GTA has an Alfa Romeo 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo engine under its hood. This engine has an output of 540 hp (without any exaggeration not less than 510 hp) and by considering to the weight of car, it has the best-in-class weight-to-power ratio of 187 hp/L. the acceleration time for this vehicle is reasonable to it can speed up zero to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.
One of the keys do on the engine is revisiting the piston cooling flow and the design of the rods.so the air circulation in the engine cooling and transmission circuits has also been increased.
As mentioned before, engineers of Alfa Romeo worked on the aerodynamics, handling, and also the weight. By the reduction of weight company was successful. And with the aerodynamics, the new GTA can be compared with Formula One cars. The new design produces the enough downforce to keep the car on floor and also under control (and of course lower fuel consumption).
What could bring you these downforces? For sure one of them is the new rear spoilers. It can be adjusted in four different positions on the GTAm. The active splitter is the other feature of this vehicle. It can extend for using on the track by up to 40 mm on the GTAm.
This car went into the wind tunnel and was tested. A special new air extractor capable of increasing the car’s ground effect, thus with the GTA and GTAm, excellent road holding at high speeds is guaranteed.
Speaking about handling. Its improved by making more space for the Quadrifoglio’s front wheel tracks by 25 mm and their rear counterparts by 50 mm. along with this one, developed suspension setup for the system, which includes the front with two oscillating arms, the rear using independent multilink springs had a grate role on it.
