Subaru Upgrades Ascent In 2026

The Subaru Ascent is facing a challenging year, with sales dropping a significant 23.2% in the first half of the year. Unfortunately for Subaru, the upcoming 2026 model may not be enough to turn things around. Scheduled to arrive at dealerships in the fall, the updated American-made three-row crossover brings only modest changes. One noticeable alteration is a streamlined trim lineup—Subaru has dropped the Ascent Onyx Edition. Despite that, buyers still have multiple choices: the 2026 Ascent is available in Premium, Limited, Limited Bronze Edition, Touring, and the Onyx Edition Touring trims.

As the Ascent approaches the end of its production cycle, Subaru has opted for subtle updates rather than major overhauls. Among the changes, the base-level Premium trim adopts some design elements from the now-discontinued Onyx Edition. These include black-finished 18-inch wheels, black mirror caps, and additional dark exterior accents, giving it a sportier and more aggressive appearance.

The interior has also seen some minor revisions. The Premium model now ditches its cloth seats in favor of water-resistant StarTex upholstery, a practical and durable material that aligns with Subaru’s adventurous brand identity. Black interior trim adds to the updated, more refined feel of the cabin. On the upper end of the lineup, the Ascent Touring—priced at \$51,165—gets upgraded woodgrain interior accents. While Subaru hasn’t released official images yet, the company has hinted that the new woodgrain will feature a matte finish for a more modern and elegant look.

The 2026 Ascent also introduces a refreshed exterior color option. Sapphire Blue Pearl is replacing the previous Cosmic Blue Pearl, adding a new visual twist to the color palette.

Even though the changes are not revolutionary, the Ascent remains well-equipped. Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, a power liftgate, and heated front seats. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Technology is another strong suit, with an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety continues to be a priority, with Subaru’s EyeSight suite offering Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering, Pre-Collision Braking, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

Under the hood, the Ascent retains its turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 260 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque. It’s mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and features Subaru’s signature all-wheel drive system.

Pricing for the 2026 model starts at $40,795—an $800 increase from the previous year. However, higher-tier trims remain steady in pricing, and the Onyx Edition Touring even sees a slight $55 reduction, now priced at $51,995. That discount conveniently offsets the $30 increase in destination fees, which now total $1,450.
