AC Schnitzer Supercharges the BMW M5 to 799 HP

The latest generation of the BMW M5 has sparked mixed reactions among enthusiasts and critics alike. Some feel the car has strayed too far from its roots, particularly due to its increased weight and the addition of a hybridized V8 engine. Despite these concerns, tuning specialist AC Schnitzer has stepped in with a range of upgrades designed to enhance both the performance and appearance of the M5, available for both the Sedan and Touring variants. These updates are intended to win over even the most skeptical BMW fans and give the car a more aggressive and refined personality.

AC Schnitzer’s modifications begin under the hood, where they’ve targeted the already formidable powertrain. The stock M5 comes equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, supplemented by a hybrid system, that produces an impressive 717 horsepower. However, with AC Schnitzer’s performance tuning—which includes software optimization and a stainless steel exhaust system—the power output is bumped up to a substantial 799 horsepower. While this increase may not seem massive on paper, it is expected to deliver a noticeable difference in driving dynamics, offering a more exhilarating experience from the driver’s seat.

In terms of styling and handling, the upgrades continue with several aerodynamic enhancements and suspension tweaks. Both body styles receive redesigned front splitters that incorporate subtle aerodynamic canards to help manage airflow and improve stability. The tuner also offers a lowering kit that reduces the ride height by 20 mm. Although this may sound like a minor change, it significantly alters the car’s stance and appearance, especially when combined with a new set of forged wheels.

These wheels, known as the AC6, are available in either aluminum or gloss black finishes. The front wheels measure 21×10.5 inches and are paired with 285/35 tires, while the rear wheels measure 21×11 inches and come with 295/35 tires. For customers who prefer to retain the factory BMW M wheels, AC Schnitzer also provides 7 mm spacers to improve the wheel fitment within the arches, ensuring a more aggressive look without needing to change the wheels.

At the back of the car, visual enhancements continue with new rear diffusers for both versions. The Touring model gets a larger roof spoiler to emphasize its sporty character, while the Sedan features a subtle lip spoiler on the trunk. For those who appreciate refined interior details, optional extras include aluminum pedals, a specially designed key holder, and an aluminum trim for the iDrive controller, all of which add to the premium feel of the vehicle.
