The Electrified Genesis G80, Farewell V8

The all-new Genesis G80 will be all-electric. V8-powered Genesis G80s are no longer available to make way for the dual-motor Genesis G80 EV. The G80 EV offers a few important characteristics that will set it apart from the competitors in the EV market.

The electrified Genesis G80 will debut on sale in late 2021 and will be driven by two 182 horsepower motors installed on each axle for a total output of 364 horsepower. These high-performance electric motors are driven by a floor-mounted 87.2-Kilowatt-hour battery with a range of about 265 miles.

Because of the two motors, the G80 features an all-wheel drive, which improves both all-weather performance and quickness off the mark. Genesis says that the G80 EV can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, putting it on level with the top-performing G80 Sport.

The G80 EV is Genesis' initial step into the world of electric automobiles, with many more models on the way. Genesis can easily convert this flexible concept of a floor-mounted battery pack and two electric motors to their expanding array of premium SUVs and sedans.

As the EV market becomes more competitive, Hyundai will create its own EV-focused sub-brand, Ioniq. This new brand will enable Hyundai to develop more competitive EV technology while amortizing development costs across its expanding brand range.
