Nissan has revealed the all-new Nissan Frontier mid-size pickup truck for the 2022 model year with a new design and increased size compared to the outgoing model.
The new Nissan Frontier is not only bigger and longer than before, it also uses a new 3.8-liter V6 engine with 310 hp and 380 nm of torque. Compared to its main rivals, the Frontier is more powerful than the V6 version of Chevrolet Colorado. It also has more torque than the EcoBoost version of the Ford Ranger despite having less power.
The 3.8-liter V6 engine is connected to a newly developed 9-speed automatic transmission. Nissan said that the new powertrain has better fuel economy, though it hasn't released any figures yet. The new 9-speed gearbox not only gives the Nissan Frontier more capability but it enhanced the ride and comfort as well. Nissan said that it also enhanced the steering system in order to give the driver a better feeling and control.
About design, the new Frontier has a more boxy look and shape and it is more like a tough body on frame offroader. With LED headlights, front skid plate, and double red-painted hooks upfront, it really looks nice and somehow like Baja racers.
Nissan will produce the 2022 Nissan Frontier in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, both available with standard Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control.
Professional off-roaders must go for the PRO-4X trim that comes with locking diffs, Bilstein off-road shocks, and underbody skid plates. Other technical highlights are double-wishbone suspension with twin-tube shocks and hollow stabilizer bars and multi-leaf springs with a solid axle at the rear. The 2022 Nissan Frontier can also carry 635 kg of payload and the towing capacity is 2,944 kg.
Inside the cabin, the new Frontier benefits from the 9-inch touchscreen, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Safety Shield 360, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, 7-inch instrument cluster, USB ports front and rear, 360-degree camera, rearview camera, leather steering wheel with controllers on it, and dual-zone automatic air conditioner system.
There is no pricing information yet but the 2022 Nissan Frontier is expected to go on sale from this summer. The EPA fuel economy will be announced by the time of release.
