Volkswagen has introduced a performance version of its latest EV ID.4 known as the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX. ID.4 GTX has 91 hp power boost over the standard ID.4. The 295hp ID.4 GTX outperforms the 201hp ID.4 by more than 2 seconds from zero to 62mph.
The regular ID.4 has a single 201 hp motor driving the rear wheels, but the GTX has the same arrangement but adds a second motor to the front axle for a total of 295hp. Volkswagen has not yet defined a torque number. VW also increased the electronic speed limiter from 99mph to 112mph in addition to decreasing the 62mph interval from 8.5 seconds to 6.2 seconds.
In certain countries, entry-level ID.4s come with a 58 kWh battery, but the GTX comes with the 77 kWh pack that is standard on all ID.4s available in North America. While the regular ID.4 is measured at 310 miles on the European WLTP cycle, the GTX is somewhat heavier – but VW does not specify by how much – and can only handle 298 miles.
The GTX continues to charge at the same 125 kW pace as the regular 201 hp vehicle. Its battery will add 186 miles to your driving range in just 30 minutes.
As optional, there is VW's IQ.Light LED Matrix headlights, as well as a gloss black spoiler and intake grilles. It distinguishes itself on the inside with 30-color interior ambient lighting, red stitching, and a heated steering wheel. It also comes standard with 20-inch wheels, which can be upgraded to 21s.
The ID.4 GTX is not yet available in the United States or the United Kingdom, but it costs €50,415 that is equal to $60,623 before government subsidies in Germany, making it about €6000 or $7200 more expensive than the Pro, the most affordable single-motor ID.4.
