Instead of investing in performance vehicles, automakers are increasingly focusing on next-generation technologies. However, there appears to be some good news for performance vehicle enthusiasts. According to a report on the Japanese website Spyder7, Toyota is planning to bring the MR2 back to life.

According to the article, Toyota is searching for a partner for the project, similar to how they worked with Subaru on the 86 and BMW on the Supra. According to the report, the Japanese manufacturer is in talks with Porsche and Lotus.

The next Toyota MR2 will be driven by a plug-in hybrid mid-mounted 2.8-liter or 3.0-liter V6 engine with a total output of 345 to 395 horsepower if this dream comes true. Spyder7 claims that the resurrected MR2 is aesthetically similar to the Toyota Alessandro Volta concept displayed in the image and shown at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show.

In terms of cost, the MR2 might slot one step above the Supra in the range. The estimated starting price is $52,761. In order to provide a comparison, the Supra begins at $43,930 in Japan.

According to Spyder7, the resurrected MR2 might make its appearance as early as 2024.
