Mazda has released information about a new 3.3-liter diesel inline-six for its CX-60 luxury SUV in Europe. The 3.0 liter plug-in hybrid gasoline engine and later a conventional gasoline engine will be joined by the e-Skyactiv D in the European CX-60 lineup.
A 197-horsepower version of the new engine is offered for SUVs with rear-wheel drive, while a 251-horsepower boost is exclusively available for CX-60 models with Mazda's i-Activ all-wheel drive technology.
In order to attain a thermal efficiency of more than 40%, both versions have 48V mild hybrid assistance and a combustion technology known as Distribution-Controlled Partially Premixed Compression Ignition.

The payout, according to Mazda, is enhanced efficiency of 57.6 mpg and a reduction in CO2 emission to 127 g/km, but the company does not specify how much slower the base engine is.
