Positioned with a starting price of 79,800 yuan, equivalent to approximately $11,000, this vehicle emerges as a compelling option, notably undercutting competitors in its segment and beyond.
In a bold statement across its social media platforms, BYD proclaimed, "The price will make gasoline car assemblers tremble," asserting its intent to set a new standard with the introduction of the "Glory Edition" within the compact car segment. Chinese media outlets have echoed this sentiment, highlighting the Qin Plus DM-i's competitive pricing, which significantly undercuts rival models such as the VW Lavida and the Toyota Corolla by considerable margins.
While BYD has been manufacturing the Qin Plus DM-i for some time, the unveiling of the cut-price variant, the Glory Edition, marks a strategic move to make PHEVs more accessible, offering a price point $2,700 lower than its predecessor. Although not a pure battery-electric vehicle like other models in BYD's lineup, the brand's proficiency in building PHEVs is evident, reaffirming its versatility in catering to diverse consumer needs.
Across all iterations of the Qin Plus DM-i, including the Glory Edition, a consistent powertrain configuration is maintained. Anchored by a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine delivering 110 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque, additional propulsion is provided by an electric motor, available in two variants: 180 hp and 316 Nm or 197 hp and 325 Nm. Complementing this setup are BYD's Blade batteries, offered in capacities of 8.32 kWh and 18.32 kWh, with the Glory Edition likely equipped with the former, affording an all-electric range of 55 km.
