BYD is set to introduce the Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition, a vehicle it proudly labels as a “full-size executive luxury SUV.” With pre-sales scheduled to begin on July 31 in China, the U8L Dingshi Edition promises to combine opulent design with cutting-edge technology and rugged all-terrain capabilities. The name “Dingshi” (鼎世), rooted in ancient Chinese culture, evokes the idea of prosperity, prestige, and an era of prominence, aligning well with the SUV's high-end positioning.
Visually, the U8L Dingshi Edition shares much of its design language with the existing Yangwang U8, though it comes with several notable enhancements. It is 372 mm longer overall, with an extended wheelbase of 3250 mm, making it 200 mm longer between the axles compared to the standard U8. This increase in size has enabled a more spacious six-seat layout inside the cabin, emphasizing comfort and exclusivity. For comparison, the current Yangwang U8 is priced at 1.098 million yuan (approximately $150,000), and the U8L Dingshi Edition is expected to command a similar or higher price point.
In terms of design accents, one of the standout features is the 24-karat gold-plated brand logo, inspired by the ancient Chinese character for “electricity” from oracle bone inscriptions—symbolizing both tradition and advanced technology. The vehicle’s external spare tire has been removed, contributing to a more streamlined and premium rear-end appearance.
Technologically, the U8L Dingshi Edition is expected to be equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye” A (DiPilot 600) system, featuring three lidars to enable highway and urban Navigate-on-Autopilot (NOA) capabilities as well as automated parking assistance. Under the hood, it retains the powerful 2.0T plug-in hybrid system used in the U8, alongside four electric motors—one for each wheel—each delivering 295 horsepower. The SUV will also feature BYD’s proprietary e4 platform and DiSus-P intelligent suspension, supporting features like tank turns, tire blowout stabilization, and even emergency water flotation.
Performance-wise, if it mirrors the original U8, buyers can expect a top speed of 200 km/h, a 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 3.6 seconds, and a CLTC-rated range of up to 1,000 km. Fast-charging is also likely to be included, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes.
Inside, the luxury experience continues. The entire cabin is wrapped in premium leather materials, with two interior color themes available: black/brown and purple/gray. A host of high-end features includes a 12.8-inch OLED curved central control screen, a full LCD instrument cluster, a co-pilot entertainment display, AR head-up display, and uniquely styled air vents above the screens. The gold-plated steering wheel badge reinforces the opulent motif, and a built-in refrigerator in the center console—capable of maintaining temperatures from -6°C to 50°C—adds to the vehicle’s executive feel.
Seating is arranged in a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, with each seat wrapped in Nappa leather processed through 78 detailed tanning steps. The door trim is crafted from teak wood, polished and finished through 27 distinct treatments. Most notably, the second-row seats are designed with a zero-gravity configuration, and come equipped with a dedicated control screen and electric leg rests, ensuring maximum comfort for rear passengers.
All in all, the Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition represents BYD’s most ambitious attempt yet to enter the ultra-luxury SUV market, fusing advanced electric technology with artisanal craftsmanship and supreme comfort.
