The 2026 Besturn Pony, a compact electric vehicle under FAW's mainstream Bestune brand, has officially hit the Chinese market, offering an affordable and stylish solution for urban commuting. Unveiled at the Fan Cooling Festival hosted by FAW Besturn in Changchun, Jilin Province on July 27, 2025, the new Pony is now available in five different variants, with prices ranging between 34,900 and 45,900 yuan (approximately $4,800 to $6,300). Designed to meet the growing demand for economical city EVs, the Pony remains one of the most accessible options on the market.
The 2026 update maintains the three-door, four-seat configuration and retains the vehicle’s signature boxy shape, defined by clean, angular lines. While the overall design language remains consistent with the previous model, the new Pony introduces fresh style elements such as a “Snow Cherry Pink” exterior and an upgraded “Cocoa Brown” interior for a more youthful and customized appearance. Subtle updates to the headlight cluster and lower grille detailing help refine the front end, while the rear design mirrors the front, achieving a balanced and cohesive aesthetic.
In terms of proportions, the vehicle's compact dimensions are unchanged, measuring 3000 mm in length, 1510 mm in width, and 1630 mm in height, with a 1953 mm wheelbase. These figures make it ideal for maneuvering through tight city streets and parking in small spaces. The design also includes white side mirrors, flared wheel arches, and aerodynamically optimized wheels, enhancing both function and form.
Inside, the 2026 Pony maintains its minimalist layout but introduces a few notable upgrades. The new interior trim in Cocoa Brown brings a warmer tone to the cabin. Higher trim levels now feature a 10.1-inch smart touchscreen, Bluetooth-based smartphone key access, passive entry, and support for over-the-air (OTA) updates. It also includes FAW’s DeepSeek intelligent voice assistant, a driving recorder, and a low-speed creep function, enhancing comfort in stop-and-go traffic.
Under the hood, the Pony is powered by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering 42 horsepower and 90 Nm of torque. The EV runs on an 18.11 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which provides a CLTC-rated range of 222 kilometers on a single charge—nearly double the range of the original version launched in 2024, which offered 122 km and just 28 hp.
The 2026 Besturn Pony represents a significant step forward for FAW’s entry-level EV strategy. With enhanced performance, expanded features, and a focus on affordability, it strengthens Bestune’s position in China’s highly competitive micro-EV segment. According to China EV DataTracker, Bestune sold 17,405 units, indicating a promising market response. With this refreshed Pony, the brand is clearly aiming to capture a larger share of young, urban buyers seeking a budget-friendly, efficient, and connected driving experience.
