Geely EX5 Gets Major Upgrade

Geely has officially launched the updated 2026 model year EX5 electric crossover in China, continuing its commitment to offering value-packed electric vehicles at accessible prices. Starting at approximately $15,335, the refreshed EX5 maintains its competitive pricing while delivering enhanced performance—most notably, a significantly extended driving range and improved ride quality.

The EX5, which was originally introduced to the Chinese market as the Galaxy E5 on July 5, 2024, has quickly established itself as a key player in Geely’s global electric vehicle strategy. Geely emphasized during its launch that the EX5 has become the brand’s top-selling electric crossover for international markets, currently available in 35 countries worldwide. It has even earned the distinction of being China’s most-exported A-class battery electric SUV, making it a cornerstone in Geely’s global expansion efforts.

One of the most notable upgrades in the 2026 EX5 lies in its battery offerings and range. Geely has discontinued the entry-level 49.5 kWh variant, which previously delivered a CLTC range of 440 km but in real-world usage often failed to exceed 400 km. In its place, the company now offers two new ShenDun (Aegis) LFP batteries—a 60.2 kWh version providing 530 km of range, and a 68.4 kWh version offering up to 610 km CLTC range. Despite these improvements, the pricing has remained unchanged, ranging between $15,335 and $20,360 USD, making the EX5 an even more attractive proposition. Notably, the top trim level priced at $25,100 has been removed, further lowering the price ceiling and increasing the EX5’s appeal against rivals like the BYD Atto 3 (Yuan Plus), which is slightly more expensive.

Geely has also made suspension improvements, enhancing damping performance by 20%, promising a smoother and more stable ride. Visually, the vehicle remains largely the same, but two new exterior colors—Dawn Blue and Evening Forest Green—have been added to the palette, giving customers more personalization options.

The EX5 remains a compact urban SUV, measuring 4615 mm in length, 1901 mm in width, and 1670 mm in height, with a 2750 mm wheelbase. It is powered by a front-mounted electric motor delivering 215 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 180 km/h. For charging, it supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

Inside, the EX5 continues to offer a 15.4-inch central display, powered by Flyme Auto OS, along with six speakers and a 360-degree camera system in the base model. Higher trims add Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, a heads-up display (HUD), and a premium 16-speaker Flyme Sound system.

According to China EV DataTracker, domestic sales of the EX5 have reached 130,715 units. Furthermore, Geely International announced on July 4, 2025, that global sales have surpassed 150,000 units, cementing the EX5’s role as a global success in the affordable electric crossover segment.
